Jaipur: Former Rajasthan chief minister Ashok Gehlot on Saturday alleged a "new model of corruption" and conflict of interest in the Modi government, claiming recent developments pointed to preferential treatment for politicians and bureaucrats. He cited the recent allocation of contracts for the construction of a stadium in the state, claiming it was awarded to a company that had ties to a close aide of a senior politician. "This is a clear conflict of interest and a new model of corruption that we are witnessing under the current government. It is as if they are conducting a special football World Cup for their favored few," Gehlot told reporters. He also questioned the transparency of the bidding process, alleging that other qualified companies were overlooked. "The people of Rajasthan deserve to know how public money is being spent, and why these decisions are being made behind closed doors," he added.
